Taiwan can make a preemptive strike to China

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense releases the National Defense Report 2023.

On 12 Sep.,Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported that the Ministry of National Defense released the National Defense Report 2023 on the same day.

Taiwan has been releasing a defense report every two years.

The report devotes 19 of its 188 pages to the problem with China. This compares to 10 pages in 2021 and 11 pages in 2019.

“China’s frequent live-fire exercises in northern and southern Taiwan and the Pacific Ocean are an attempt to threaten Taiwan’s eastern and western regions,” the report said.

“The Chinese military’s Eastern and Southern Provincial Commands have completed the expansion of airfields along the coastline, and have permanently deployed new fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles there,” it said.

Most notably, the report found that “when there are clear signs of Chinese military aggression, Taiwan can mobilize precision weapons and launch a preemptive strike.” Until now, Taiwan’s response to Chinese military aggression has been largely defensive.
