On November 9th, the People’s Democracy Party (PDP) carried out propaganda campaigns at the National Workers’ Rally and the First General Strike in Seoul, South Korea organized by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) and National Popular Action, the National Workers’ Rally of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), and the 114th Candlelight March in front of Seoul City Hall Station.
On June 6-8, party members put up the banners calling for South Korean President to step down and just before the start of the demonstrations, more than 1,000 posters with the slogans were attached to the floor of the convention venue, and 25,000 copies of Party Newspapers were distributed in the street. Party members intensively distributed the newspaper to workers, and some union members actively participated in the propaganda campaign by picking up copies and distributing them to their fellow members.
At the rally, police arrested 10 people, including rally participants, because of the “obstruction of justice for police offices”. Organizers estimated that 100,000 people gathered.
At the rally of the FKTU, an estimated 30,000 workers gathered to express their solidarity with the struggle against the Yoon regime.
Meanwhile, the chair of the special committee of the PDP for the anti-US and anti-war strongly condemned President Yoon Suk-yeol’s criminal activities by delivering six times of party speeches at the National Workers’ Rally organized by the FKTU in Seoul.
The chair said “A poll showed that more than half of the people want to impeach Yoon Suk-yeol. The national approval rating has dropped to 17%. The corrupt and incompetent government is scrambling to cover up its crimes. In order to castrate the anti-Yoon sentiment of the workers and the people, the Yoon government repressed workers and unions and accused them of being black agitators.”
And “In the recent public discourse, Yoon revealed his criminal behaviors and showed his support for Kim Keon-hee. His wife, Kim Keon-hee intervened in the national government affairs, intervened in the election, and intervened in the party affairs. It is Kim who does not even become guilty of taking bribes and not guilty of manipulating stock prices.” She continued, “The way to judge the anti-worker, anti-people Yoon Suk-yeol government is to bring him down with our power, with a powerful anti-Yoon candlelight struggle.
The banner says “Step down Yoon, the corrupt and incompetent regime that calls for martial law into a war and oppresses the political party!”
The posters say “Let’s end the labor repression and corruption!, Let’s end the prosecutor’s dictatorship and the martial law for a war!”
