Colloquium in Santiago: The Mobilization of the Peoples Against Imperialism Today

On November 8, a colloquium titled “The Mobilization of the Peoples Against Imperialism Today” was held in Santiago, Chile.

The event was co-organized by the World Anti-Imperialist Platform and the Chilean Communist Party (Proletarian Action, PC(AP)) to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the party’s founding.

The colloquium was part of a broader series of events held on November 8–10 to mark the occasion.

Key participants included Alberto García, a member of the Central Committee of the Proletarian Union; Pablo Rojo, International Relations Secretary of Liberation Party in Argentina; Gaspar Ortiz, member of the national leadership of the PC(AP); Christopher Helali, International Secretary of the American Communist Party; and Kim Dae-bong, Secretary of organizing committee of the People’s Democracy Party in “Republic of Korea”.

Before the formal proceedings, all participants united in singing “The Internationale.” The event began with an opening address by Eduardo Artés, General Secretary of the PC(AP).

The first presentation was delivered by Alberto García from Proletarian Union (Spain). He remarked “Where there is oppression, there is resistance. Thus, there is always popular struggle against imperialism.”

He said, “Since then, the misdeeds of imperialists against the peoples have continued to grow, and they have responded by improving their combat capabilities. (…) But those powers that confront imperialism are the Russian, Chinese, Korean, and Iranian peoples, among others, who defeated it in the past and now continue their struggle with a qualitatively superior force: the organized and material strength of the State.”

“Plundering wars are the necessary product of their parasitic economy. (…) In 2019, it was scarcity in Chile. (…) In Spain, floods have exposed the greed of capitalists who force workers to risk their lives to go to work, while investments are not allocated to the safety of the population but to real estate speculation.”,he added.

He emphasized, “The task of raising awareness by communists is indispensable to transform the workers’ and popular movement into a victorious revolutionary force for the inevitable battles that will unfold. All our struggles are battles in the same war.”

“It does not matter how many reformist illusions these masses may still harbor. It does not matter how much they still rely on reformist or openly reactionary leaderships. We must place infinite trust in the truth and in the masses, working with patience and perseverance to bring them the consistent leadership being forged internationally by the World Anti-Imperialist Platform.”, he stated.

Following this, Pablo Rojo from Liberation Party (Argentina) made a remark that “We must continue fighting tirelessly to make it happen, with our proposal for an anti-imperialist and anti-fascist front.”

He criticized that Milei “is collaborating politically and militarily with the Rammstein group of that military alliance, which supports Nazi Ukraine against Russia.”

He added that “The Minister of Defense, Luis Petri, has formally requested Argentina’s entry into NATO.” and Milei “supports Israel in its genocide in Gaza.”

“There have been and continue to be anti-imperialist protests and denunciations, such as campaigns to investigate external debt and suspend its payments.”, “In popular demonstrations, banners reading ‘The debt is with the people, not with the IMF’ are flown.”, “Without reaching the scale seen in other countries, there is also solidarity in Argentina with Palestine, against Milei, Netanyahu, and Washington.” he stressed.

Gaspar Ortiz of Chile’s CP(AP) offered critical insights on “The theoretical synthesis of revolution is based on practice. The experience of international anti-imperialist struggle teaches us, in an exemplary way, that patriotism can only be fully realized through the establishment of a new socio-political model of national development capable of confronting imperialism economically and culturally, under the active leadership and mobilization of Marxist-Leninists.”

“Past experiences in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe demonstrate that as long as Marxist-Leninists are at the forefront, State Power can resist and even defeat imperialist and colonial forces (as seen with the USSR, Korea, China, Vietnam, and Laos). However, as long as there is hope that imperialism will allow us to exist through concessions, or if we attempt development under the capitalist model inherited from the neocolonial past, we risk defeats and massacres like those in Libya, Iraq, Eastern Europe, and the former USSR.” he added.

He also made remarks that “A positive example lies in the four people’s democracies in Asia (China, Korea, Laos, and Vietnam) and Cuba, which have actively participated in resistance, development, and victories across various fronts of struggle. It is understood that only States and Parties guided by scientific socialism can effectively integrate and concretize the tasks of liberation and independence into a socio-political project superior to capitalism, orienting their economy and society toward socialism.”

He said, “The cultural front must be devoted to the emancipatory struggle, advancing toward the construction of a new society that cannot emerge on unliberated land. Conversely, national liberation without a superior societal project and purpose risks being aborted in the short term, as it would lack a framework superior to the system imposed by oppressors. Advancing decisively after national liberation means committing to the future of a new society: SOCIALISM!”

Christopher Helali of the American Communist Party said, that It has been observed that numerous dollars have been funneled into Ukraine. The United States is exhausted with funding Zelensky. Nothing substantial has been achieved on that front, yet they are pushing to continue their support. Recently, many Americans have expressed opposition to Ukraine.

He analyzed that the wars and massacres in Gaza and Lebanon have affected Michigan’s large Muslim community. In 2022, Biden won Michigan with over 70% of the vote, but in 2024, Harris received only 38%, while Trump garnered 42%,” the analysis pointed out.

Furthermore, it stated, “The reason Trump was able to gain more votes compared to the last election is that a significant number of Muslims and Latinos have turned away from the Democrats. These were previously strong supporters of the Democratic Party. This is evident in the fact that 33% of Latinos shifted from the Democrats to the Republicans. However, Trump is not an anti-imperialist. The situation will escalate further in the future. Trump will intensify conflicts in Palestine and similarly with Russia, China, and North Korea. There are no illusions. The same applies to Latin America. Therefore, we must be prepared, he added.

Kim Dae-bong, representing the World Anti-Imperialist Platform, gave a speech emphasizing that “The reason Yoon Suk-yeol is fixated on “wartime martial law” is due to his severe political crisis. Revelations of corruption and scandals involving his administration are surfacing daily. Recently, illegal activities during the last presidential election have also come to light, including manipulation of public opinion and operation of unauthorized offices. If proper procedures are followed, the presidential election results themselves could be invalidated.” adding “The “wartime martial law” of Yoon Suk-yeol, the fascist puppet of US imperialism, is only possible under the control of US aggressive forces. A war in the “ROK” signals the start of a war in Eastern Asia and Western Pacific.“

Furthermore, he explained that “the anti-imperialist camp is forming an anti-imperialist front, led by nuclear and missile powers such as the DPRK, China, and Russia, as well as Iran, armed with hydrogen bombs and hypersonic missiles as the main forces. It includes broader forces like the “Axis of Resistance,” people in Latin America, Asia, and Africa, and anti-war movements within imperialist countries as auxiliary forces.” and “If war breaks out in East Asia and the Western Pacific, where the DPRK, PRC, and RF are positioned, this region would likely become a graveyard for imperialist forces.”

Additionally, he highlighted that “On October 25 to 27, we reaffirmed tha legitimacy and necessity of a strategic alliance between Pan-Africanism and anti-imperialism. Only Pan-Africanism, led by the revolutionary party of the working class, can continue advancing on the revolutionary path of national liberation, class liberation, and human liberation. Not only Africa but also Latin America stands united. The anti-imperialist struggle of the Latin American people is an important part of the world anti-imperialist front and is connected as one with the anti-imperialist struggle of people worldwide.”

The colloquium concluded with the singing of the PC(AP)’s party anthem, followed by spirited chants from its youth members.

One of the member of the CC of the PC(AP) emphasized, “The comrades of the People’s Democracy Party are still enduring fascist repression. International solidarity is crucial.”

In a show of support, attendees held banners and chanted slogans such as “Abolish the National Security Act!”, “Stop the Fascist Repression of the People’s Democracy Party!”, and “Down with the Fascist War Monger Yoon Suk-yeol!” They also took group photos, expressing solidarity with the People’s Democracy Party.
