On January 4, the Russian Defense Ministry warned that it would retaliate against Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory.
The previous day, Ukraine attacked the neighboring Belgorod Oblast with a U.S.-supplied missile, the ATACMS.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that its S-400 and Pantsir-SM air defense systems shot down the attack, and said it would retaliate against such actions by the Western-backed Ukrainian regime.
Earlier in the day, Russia attacked a Ukrainian military airfield, a drone storage center, and announced that it had seized control of the town of Nadiia in eastern Lugansk.
