G7, EU, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea issue statement condemning military cooperation between DPRK and Russia

On December 16, the foreign ministers of the G7, Australia, New Zealand, and the ‘Republic of Korea (South Korea)’, as well as the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, issued a joint statement on Saturday condemning military cooperation between the DPRK and Russia.

The statement strongly condemns the growing military cooperation between the DPRK and the Russian Federation, including the deployment of the Korean People’s Army to fight in Ukraine, and notes that the DPRK’s direct support for Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine represents a dangerous escalation of conflict with serious consequences for European and Indo-Pacific security.

We are deeply concerned about Russia’s political, military, and economic support to the DPRK, including its weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and means of delivery, which will further deteriorate the already tense security environment on the Korean Peninsula.

They also called on Russia to withdraw its troops from the DPRK and end all Russian support.

Recently, the U.S. government believes that the DPRK has dispatched about 11,000 troops to Russia, but it has not provided clear evidence.
